The AEC1 is a 5 day course, and is a step up from the RYA 1-Day Diesel Engine Course. It is what many marine engineers will know as the original AEC. The objective of the course is to provide a basic theoretical knowledge and some practical hands on experience of diesel engines and systems. To make the course as practical as possible we use a Volvo and Yanmar engine which we strip down to their component parts and hopefully put back together again.

This course meets the requirements of the requirements set out in table A5.3 of Workboat Code 3 and the MCA Sport & Pleasure Code

The AEC 2 is the second half to the full AEC qualification. It is a 35 hour, 5 day enhanced course. The aim is to give the basic training to the engineer officers who want to pursue a career on 'Small Vessels'. The necessary training outlines the certification structure, examination and training requirements. The RYA VHF Radio Short Range Certificate (SRC) is the minimum qualification required by law to control the operation of VHF and VHF Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel voluntarily fitted with a radio. This includes both fixed and hand held equipment using International channels.
