The RYA Cruising Instructor course is an entry-level qualification for experienced sailors to become RYA instructors, allowing them to teach RYA Competent Crew and RYA Day Skipper courses. Candidates must hold a commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster Offshore certificate.
The 5-day course focuses on teaching techniques, instructional standards, and course management, culminating in a moderation by an external examiner.
Content: Teaching methods, debriefing, contents and syllabus of G158 log book, RYA system, communication skills, practical teaching and navigation instruction.
Assessment: continual training and assessment by trainer and external moderation by another trainer on the last day.
Commercial use: Allows a Cruising Instructor to teach RYA Start Yachting, Competent Crew and Day Skipper practical courses at an RYA Training Centre.
