Powerboat Courses

RYA Powerboat Level 1

This fun and educational course is an introduction to powerboating techniques for launching and recovering a boat from a road trailer, everyday boat handling skills and the use of safety equipment typically found on board.

RYA Powerboat Level 2

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is essentially a practical based course, that provides you with the skills and knowledge to operate a RIB, or small powerboat within inshore areas. The Powerboat Level 2 can also be used to obtain a commercial endorsement on certain MCA codes of practice allowing the certificate holder to skipper a small commercial vessel.

RYA Intermediate Powerboat

This course covers the practical use of pilotage and passage planning by day on coastal waters using both traditional and electronic navigation techniques. This makes the course a great option for those who are comfortable using their boat, but a bit apprehensive about going further afield or venturing to areas that they are unfamiliar with.

STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities

The training forms part of the requirements for basic training for seafarers employed or engaged in any capacity on board ship on the business of that ship as part of the ship's complement with designated safety or pollution prevention duties in the operation of the ship. The training must be undertaken before new entrants are assigned to any such shipboard duties.

STCW Proficiency in Security Awareness

This training is now required by all personnel employed or engaged onboard ships which the ISPS code applies (International Ship and Port Security Code). This applies to any vessel over 500 gross tonnage as well as port facilities serving these vessels. This half day course is based on Regulation VI/6, paragraph 1 and Section A-VI/6, paragraph 4 of the STCW Convention and Code 1978, as amended.

MCA Courses

MCA Efficient Deck Hand (EDH)

The Efficient Deck Hand Course is a practical and theory course covering deck seamanship skills and ship knowledge. Efficient Deck Hand (EDH) is the qualifying examination for an Able Seafarer Deck certificate. It is also a requirement for the issue of an Officer of the Watch (Yacht less than 3000GT) Certificate of Competency.

MCA Boatmaster Fire Safety

The course has been launched primarily to meet the manning requirements of Workboat Code 3 and MCA Sport & Pleasure Code. The course also meets the requirements for those applying for their MCA Boatmaster Licence (BML).

The MCA Stability for Workboats, Pilot Boats and Small Commercial Vessels (SCV) has been introduced to meet the requirements in the Workboat Code Edition 3 and MCA Sport & Pleasure Code for Masters to attend an approved stability course. This course meets the requirements of Stability Training of the code of practice.

MCA Approved Engine Course Part 2 (AEC2)

The AEC 2 is the second half to the full AEC qualification. It is a 35 hour, 5 day enhanced course. The aim is to give the basic training to the engineer officers who want to pursue a career on 'Small Vessels'. The necessary training outlines the certification structure, examination and training requirements. It also explains the regulatory requirements regarding the implementation of intended training elements.

ECDIS Generic (IMO 1.27)

The course is designed for officers in charge of a navigational watch, for experienced officers and those with navigational responsibilities. It is based on the Merchant Navy Training Board and IMO 1.27 Model Course syllabus. The training aims to equip the student with the fundamental knowledge and skills needed to keep a safe navigational watch using electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS), interfaced with other onboard equipment to maintain safety of navigation.
