Highfield Level 2 Award in Health and Safety within the Workplace

This course is suitable for attendees from land-based or maritime workplace environments.

This qualification is designed to provide learners with knowledge of the basic health and safety practices essential in the workplace or onboard vessel as per legal obligations. 

If learners are coming from a maritime environment we will also ensure that we discuss the requirements of Health and Safety in the maritime environment, such as Safety Management Systems, Code of Safe working practices and the role that the MCA play in H&S.

The Highfield Level 2 Award in Health and Safety within the Workplace (RQF) has been developed and is awarded by Highfield Qualifications and sits on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF). The RQF is a qualification framework regulated by Ofqual and CCEA Regulation. The qualification is also regulated by Qualifications Wales.

 

Course Content:

The qualification provides learners with:

  • An understanding in the responsibilities of employers and employees
  • The benefits of good health and safety
  • Steps to a risk assessment and how they can reduce accidents
  • Near misses and ill-health
  • Typical hazards and controls in a workplace
  • Common causes of accidents
  • Emergency procedures
  • The importance of recording accidents, near misses and ill-health

 

Assessment

The assessment is a multiple-choice question examination containing 20 questions that must be completed within 45 minutes. Question papers are marked by Highfield and results and certification are forwarded by post to the candidate.

When teaching this course, we conduct practical risk assessments in small groups and write up our findings. If learners are coming from a maritime environment we will also ensure that we discuss the requirements of Risk assessment in the maritime environment.

Highfield Level 2 Award in the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) This 5 hour course is suitable for attendees from land-based or maritime workplace environments. This qualification is aimed at those learners, who work in areas such as manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport and office environments, who may come into contact with hazardous substances.
