The AEC1 is a 5 day course, and is a step up from the RYA 1-Day Diesel Engine Course. It is what many marine engineers will know as the original AEC. The objective of the course is to provide a basic theoretical knowledge and some practical hands on experience of diesel engines and systems. To make the course as practical as possible we use a Volvo and Yanmar engine which we strip down to their component parts and hopefully put back together again.

The AEC 2 is the second half to the full AEC qualification. It is a 35 hour, 5 day enhanced course. The aim is to give the basic training to the engineer officers who want to pursue a career on 'Small Vessels'. It also explains the regulatory requirements regarding the implementation of intended training elements.
